You're assuming that encryption is primarily about protecting our data from government snooping, but that's only a coincidental benefit. Encryption is about protecting our data from hackers and data breaches. It just so happens that it also makes that data inaccessible to governments, but that is by no means the reason for having it. Encryption does very much benefit all customers who can make use of it.
