The author makes some good points, but I think it's pretty obvious that gun control has to be part of the equation. The mental health issues are going to be far, far more difficult to solve, and will take a great deal of time. Gun control is a simple matter of legislation. I totally agree that focusing everything on guns and ignoring the social and mental health issues is a mistake, but I don't think anyone in favour of gun control is suggesting we ignore mental health. Gun control is just a pragmatic and entirely achievable first step in improving the situation.
