I understand your perspective, but whether it's useful to you now isn't the point of the article. The point is that its current usefulness to you isn't enough to support the business model. They have to take over jobs entirely, so as to become more efficient and capable at powering products without any human intervention—i.e., no "you" at all. But because that's not happening, and it's looking uncertain whether it will anytime soon, they're opting for pure financial might and monopolization to drown out the user's option for better solutions. I'm somewhat skeptical that this is actually possible, but it remains to be seen, so I get the concern of the article.
