Hmm... I'm not a psychologist, but I'd say that's extremely unlikely. Perhaps if they had only an abusive father, and no mother, but that's pretty rare, no? It seems to me that most single-parent households are mother/child, so how would the role of the weak, victimized female figure be imprinted on the child?
No, they probably come from so-called "normal" households with abusive fathers. And it's even quite possible that the abuse isn't particularly obvious—coercive, subtly degrading, shaming, are as likely as outright physical violence... That's my guess anyway. Maybe somebody with a background in psychology could chime in here?
